Welcome to Centre A’s Online Library Resource.
Centre A has a small but growing library of books with a focus on Asian art. Special features of the library include the Finlayson Collection of rare books on classical Chinese and Japanese art, a collection of rare catalogues and monographs pertaining to contemporary Asian Canadian art, and books designed by artists. The library catalogue is available here online, making our collection available to the public for education and research purposes.
Search our online database for books in our collection and visit Centre A directly to access our library.
Centre A
Centre A has a mission to provide a platform for contemporary Asian art that engages, educates, stimulates a reflective experience and provokes critical thought.
From its large gallery space in the heart of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, Centre A explores beyond exhibition art practice to include artists-in-residence, collective interventions, works in progress, studio production, public forums, screenings, publications and web projects. This is a space for gathering, discussion and exchange between artists and participants from diverse backgrounds.
Born in 1999, Centre A has grown steadily. It has presented the work of over 300 artists from across Canada and around the world and produced over 80 original projects. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2009, Centre A invites you to join in this collaborative, networked adventure.
The gallery is located in one of Vancouver’s oldest and diverse downtown neighbourhoods, situated between Gastown and Chinatown, and within walking distance of many other active art spaces. Our artistic programs connect to the life of this interesting and rapidly changing area.
